For many years, the Association, being a recognized platform for the development of scientific, educational and humanitarian cooperation between universities in Russia and China, has been actively involved in the agenda of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the Arctic. The first ATURC forum on Arctic research was held in 2018 in Yakutsk on the basis of the North-Eastern Federal University and brought together prominent experts from ATURC universities specializing in training, scientific cooperation and academic mobility in the areas of the Arctic environment, creating basic infrastructure, construction of buildings and structures in the Arctic, as well as the study of permafrost.
According to the agreed decision of the ATURC directorates from the Russian and Chinese sides, as part of the co-chairmanship of NEFU in ATURC for 2021-2023, as well as in order to further develop ATURC and strengthen cooperation between member universities of the Association, it was decided to hold the Second ATURC Forum on Arctic research in September 2022 as part of the IV Northern Forum on Sustainable Development. The second ATURC forum on Arctic research will be devoted to the existing problems and opportunities for further development of Russian-Chinese scientific and educational cooperation in the Arctic towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The forum will also discuss such issues as the opportunities and limitations of Chinese-Russian cooperation in the Arctic, strengthening cooperation between member universities of the Association of Technical Universities of Russia and China in the field of Arctic research and sustainable development of the Arctic.
