Roundtable “Cultural Heritage and Identity of the peoples of the North and Arctic: the energy of tradition and innovation”

The year 2022, the year of folk art and the intangible cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia, made us to take a new look at the problems of popularizing folk art and preserving cultural traditions, monuments of history and culture; ethnocultural diversity; cultural identity of peoples and ethnic communities.

Rapid changes in technology, processes of globalization and digital transformation are often destructive to the existing way of life, preservation of intangible cultural heritage, rites and traditions. In many places, carriers of intangible culture irrevocably become a thing of the past, customs and artifacts are lost, museum exhibits and cultural monuments become irrelevant to the young.

How can tradition get along with innovation in these conditions? Is it possible in this century of fast speeds and advancing virtual reality to maintain identity and transfer traditions from generation to generation? The Sakha Republic (Yakutia) is a unique place with an original culture, legacy and energy, which allows the development of new territories and transformation of the already settled ones.
