Conference: «Geocryological Research in the Arctic. Results and Prospects for Cooperation»
Organizers: Northern Forum, Melnikov Permafrost Institute (Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences)
Co-organizers: Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Lanzhou); North-Eastern Forestry University (Harbin)
The conference is dedicated to research on contemporary geocrylogical conditions in the Arctic and mountain regions of Asia; assessing the impact of current climate change on the cryolithozone’s response in various natural and techno-natural systems; the influence of various types of engineering structures on the permafrost and ground conditions of their foundations; the development of modern methods for ensuring the stability of techno-natural systems. The goal is to consolidate the efforts of leading Russian and Asian research centers, exchange the latest data on the current state of cryolithozone, and develop a program for joint research and project (grant) preparation aimed at assessing the state, forecasting, and adapting permafrost ecosystems to the consequences of permafrost degradation. Address personnel training in permafrost science, including internships for 2026-2027.
Moderator: Alexander Fedorov, Deputy Director for Science, Melnikov Permafrost Institute, Doctor of Geographic Sciences.
