Round Table “Russian-Korean Cooperation in the Arctic”

Economic aspects are important for the Republic of Korea in the Arctic. In the short to medium term, economic opportunities are expected to emerge in such areas as resource extraction, transport routes and offshore industrial development in the Arctic. Moreover, it is believed that Arctic can become a new stable source of resources for the Republic of Korea, which is a major resources importer in the world. In this regard, certain prospects emerge for a mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and the Republic of Korea on using all capacities of the Northern Sea Route. The bilateral dialogue between the countries addresses the issues of joint work on making ice-class ships and research cooperation in the Arctic to study the development of the Northern Sea Route under climate change.
