Roundtable Integrated Development of a Territory and Social Conflicts: How to Maintain a Balance in the Region?

The strategic importance of the Arctic, both in matters of national security and international relations, and in general, for the social and economic development of Russia, is increasing every year. The special role of the region is reflected in a number of government documents, setting a vector for the integrated development of the Arctic zone: infrastructure construction, introduction of new technologies, attracting investments. However, large technological companies implementing large-scale projects in the development territories often find themselves in the middle of a whole network of growing social conflicts. The need to provide social infrastructure to their own staff, the clash of interests of big businesses and the local population, a significant part of which is represented by the indigenous peoples of the North, climate change, deterioration of the environmental situation in certain areas and the depletion of the natural resource base - all of this creates new demands for the state, businesses and public organizations, the resolution of which is critical for the integrated social development of a territory.

 In the focus of the discussion:

  • How to create a high-quality strategy for managing social conflicts in development territories
  • Is it possible to balance the interests of business and local population;
  • How to preserve the socio-economic basis for the functioning of indigenous peoples, creating new living conditions in the region
  • What are the specific factors of the integrated development of the territories of the North.
