Expert discussion "Developing Arctic Transport Corridors"

The development of transport corridors in high latitudes is a necessary component of the successful implementation of projects in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and life support for the population of the Russian North. Today, in conditions of geopolitical change, disruption of conventional logistics chains, reversal of export flows to the East, climate change, the development of transport arteries and infrastructure facilities in the Arctic is becoming both a challenge and an opportunity.

The scale and direction of the development of the Russian Arctic, which are di-rectly dependent on traffic, can be assessed by the strategic indicators presented in the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation and National Security for the Period up to 2035, as well as in the new Maritime Doctrine.

The priority areas are the development of the natural fuel and energy resources of the Arctic, including on the shelf, the growth of the volume of geological explo-ration and the creation of favorable conditions for the activities of Russian oil and gas producing and gas transportation companies.

Among the main tasks are the development of Antarctic stations and field bases within the framework of the Russian Antarctic Expedition, the development of satellite communication and navigation systems in the Antarctic, expansion of GLONASS ground support systems, increase in jobs and improvement of the quality of life of people.

What is important is Russia's permanent and active presence in the region, as well as the preservation of equal conditions for international cooperation and the prevention of the militarization of high latitudes.
