Strategic Session “ESG Principles: Opportunities for the Development of the Arctic in the New Geopolitical Realities”

Today, support for socio-economic stability, import substitution, cost reduction, renewal of supply chains and diversification are coming to the fore.

It is worth noting that the ESG strategies of companies are inextricably linked with risk management, and the vast majority of experts agree that the greatest dangers and threats await us from the environment and climate change. This is especially true for Arctic ecosystems, where natural recovery processes are slow and the nature of the extractive industries business has extreme, unforeseen, irreversible consequences.

Environmental regional problems caused by the "fragility" of the ecosystems of the Arctic territories and the need to develop very nature-intensive industries, as well as the region's infrastructure problems, will lead to difficulties in the implementation of Arctic investment projects and contradictions between ambitious, strategically important projects and socio-environmental, economic and infrastructure regional problems.

Overcoming these contradictions is possible with the development of responsible investment, taking into account ESG factors in the development and implementation of projects in the regions of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.

In the focus of the discussion::

New approaches to the sustainable development agenda in the new macroeconomic realities

Pressing directions and opportunities for the development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation in the framework of fulfilling the tasks of creating domestic import-substituting products that comply with the principles of sustainable development

Infrastructure projects implemented to achieve the strategic goals of sustainable development in the Arctic regions

Regulatory policy aimed at the formation of state support measures to promote the sustainable development agenda and responsible financing in the Arctic

Green tools of financial institutions and their role in the transition to the principles of sustainable development in the Arctic zone

Green bonds as a promising tool for financing infrastructure projects in Yakutia
