Expert discussion "Prevention of natural disasters and emergencies"

Side events

In 2021, the world had everything: abnormal heat and forest fires, destructive tornadoes and catastrophic floods. Practically the entire globe has become a disaster zone. According to Global Forest Watch, in 2021 in the world fires were destroyed 25.252 hectares of forest - this is the largest loss in recorded history.

The region most affected by weather anomalies in our country is Yakutia. Forest fires on its territory last year became the largest in the world. In 2021, more than 18 million hectares of forest burned in Russia. Almost 8.5 of them - in Yakutia, and air pollution by combustion products in some settlements of the republic was 247 times exceeded the WHO recommended parameters.

Last year, the economic damage from natural disasters worldwide amounted to more than $93 billion. In 2022, according to scientists, this figure may exceed hundreds of billions of dollars.

Topics to be discussed:

  • How does the imbalance of the climate system provoke dangerous natural phenomena? Their modern classification and economic damage.
  • Are there ways to prevent natural hazards?
  • Systems of monitoring, control and modeling of natural hazards.
  • Forest-climatic projects.

The Sakha Republic - one of the few regions of the country where science is highly applied. The features of this huge area are so unique that any kind of activity, any industry, from agriculture to mining requires special developments and technologies, and experience gained in the area of climate anomalies can be replicated and used in the latest scientific developments.
