And one of the first side event “Ecotourism and protected areas” was initiated and will be moderated by Dr.Peter Prokosch, well-known world widely ecologist, Founder and the Chair of the Board of the Norwegian Non-Commercial Society “Linking Tourism & Conservation”, who made a great contribution in creation of Protected Areas System in Yakutia.
In the 1970s and 80s he played a pioneering role in the conservation development of the International Wadden Sea and became Head of the WWF Wadden Sea office in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.As a researcher at the University of Kiel, Peter studied biology and marine sciences.
He has extensive experience working with the establishment and development of national parks in the Wadden Sea, the Baltic coast of Germany, Svalbard and Iceland as well as in nature reserves in Siberia and other parts of the circumpolar Arctic, often in close cooperation with tourism.
2002 – 2006 he served as CEO of WWF-Germany in Frankfurt, 1992 – 2002 as director of the Arctic Programme of WWF International in Oslo.
Until 2014 he was the managing director of GRID-Arendal.
Present – Founder and Chairman of the Board, Linking Tourism & Conservation (LT&C).
LT&C is a Norwegian registered NGO with members from all continents, which profiles examples (LT&C-Examples) for replication, where tourism is supporting the establishment or development of national parks or other types of protected areas. LT&C is a support organization for the CBD Aichi target 11 and the SDGs 14 & 15.
